Malay has been ranked as the 4th largest language of the World with 250 million speakers world wide. Impressive?
1st - Chinese, 1.19 Billion Speakers
2nd - English, 456 million speakers
3rd - Spanish, 362 million speakers

Hmm, that is a bit doubtful, if you are talking about native speakers. What's your source? Languages like Hindi or Bengali are usually ranked 4th. Malay does not usually make the top 10 (e.g. Summer Institute of Linguistics). So are you including those who use it as a 2nd language, e.g. Javanese speakers?

Malay?! Is that collective cos as far as I know there's a number of Malays... Standard (Malaysian) Malay, Brunei Malay (masuk segala2 puak2nya tah tu ah) and Indonesian. *shrugs* The word 'Malay' itself is vague as it is.

Given this very intense piece of news, I await breathlessly for Hollywood to come up with a Malay movie that not only will be a blockbuster but also manage to stay within the cultural boundaries of the language. Hmm...
