Some of you might've had the chance to catch one or more of the three day kendo performances from friday to sunday. At the moment, Kendo is under both the BJFA & UBD and will start training next week hopefully. There's been some enquiry regarding those who are NOT in UBD and NOT in the BJFA but who want to join in. Firstly, I just want to clarify that it's not a cheap sport. Some people think it's cool coz you get to swing around swords (replicas or otherwise), but neglect the fact that it is extremely costly. Then, it's not a sport like football where you get to do whatever you want. Like most martial arts, it requires discipline. There are rules and rituals that you simply have to respect. If you can't even respect another person's personal space, how can you respect one whole culture? Being in the committee, I have to admit that we don't mind having people sign up and paying their money. Money's good... But seriously, how many people are willing to devote time and energy to be tired while honing skills? So far, we have about 50-60 people who've registered and paid. Why do I have this funny feeling that we're going to end up with 20 in the span of two months or less? Because it happens... you get bored, you realise it's not for you, you finally find something more exciting, you get a girlfriend/boyfriend to occupy your time with. The excuses are endless.
Why on earth am I ranting?!
Just in case anybody reads this in time, the Kendo committee will be having it's first official meeting this friday at 10:30 am at UBD, FASS G48. This goes out to all UBD-ians who've already registered (or plan to do so)... do try to make it for the meeting. Thanks for your time. ^_^
